CHEM 520 Organic Synthesis (Graduate)

This course will cover major topics and themes in organic synthesis. The course will begin with an overview of the importance of small molecule total synthesis, as well as a review of organic structure and reactivity, then will take an in-depth dive into the syntheses of important classes of molecules including the beta-lactams, steroids, and sugars. Later modules will address important topics including stereoselective synthesis, medicinal chemistry, biosynthesis, and bioinspired (or biomimetic) synthesis.

Prerequisite: A license to teach high school chemistry.
