CHEM 590 Chemistry Capstone (Graduate)

The goal of this course is for students to be able to synthesize what they have learned in previous coursework from two or more subdisciplines of chemistry (analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, biological) as well as what they learn from the chemical literature to develop a learning module that introduces novel concepts and applications to introductory chemistry students. Students will integrate their knowledge and understanding from literature that transcends subdisciplinary boundaries of chemistry.

We will begin by reviewing how to locate materials from the scientific literature and specific skills in cheminformatics and chemical drawing tools. Students will then work in small groups to design and develop their own learning module on an approved topic.

Note: This course is required for the graduate certificate.

Prerequisite: 9 (preferably 12) hours of graduate chemistry & a license to teach high school chemistry.
