DSCI 511 Data Processing & Visualization (Graduate)

This course introduces data visualization tools, methods, and techniques that increase the understanding of complex data. Topics covered include design principles, perception, color, statistical graphs, maps, trees and networks, high-dimensional data, and others.

The subject matter will take a holistic approach to visualization, from data collection to interface design to user evaluation. Students will be exposed to an assortment of technologies, starting with JavaScript’s D3, R (Shiny), python (several visualization libraries), and various public APIs (Twitter, Google Maps).

Prerequisite: Familiarity with programming (we will work with Javascript, R, maybe python)
