Graduate Courses for HLC Credentialing

STEM Teach offers dual credit teachers the opportunity to take graduate courses at a variety of Indiana colleges in content areas such as biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, mathematics, and psychology. Most classes are in an online format so teachers can access the courses when it fits into their schedule. STEM Teach pays the cost of tuition and books/materials directly to the college or university offering the course, so there are NO COSTS for teachers or schools.

High school educators teaching dual credit courses will be required to have a master’s degree in the content area they teach or a master’s degree in another area plus 18 graduate credit hours in the content area they teach. These requirements are set by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the accrediting organization for degree-granting postsecondary institutions in Indiana and 18 other states.

Dual Credit Teachers with a Master’s Degree

Dual credit teachers who already hold a master’s degree will need to complete 18 graduate credits in the content area in which they are pursuing a credential.  Some institutions offer a graduate certificate upon successful completion of 18 graduate credits in a content area.

How do I know if an institution offers a graduate certificate?  

On each course web page, if the institution offers a graduate certificate for 18 hours then it will be notated on the right hand side of the page.

i.e., Graduate Certificate Available: Yes

Dual Credit Teachers In Need of a Master’s Degree

STEM Teach V is excited to share that a limited amount of funding is available to support teachers who are completing 18 graduate credits in a STEM content area through STEM Teach and are in need of a master’s degree for credentialing. Graduate courses not listed in the STEM Teach V catalog will be available to teachers who apply for this opportunity.

Important Dates

Summer 2024 Application & Registration Dates:

  • Applications for teachers NEW to STEM Teach will be accepted February 26 – March 1, 2024 for Summer courses and subsequent semesters.
  • Priority Registration for Dual Credit Teachers will be open March 4 – 10, 2024 for Summer courses and subsequent semesters.
  • Registration for ALL Teachers enrolled in STEM Teach will be open March 11 – 15, 2024 for Summer courses and subsequent semesters.

  • Applications are currently closed for ALL Winter/Spring 2024 courses.
